REVELATION KNOWLEDGE:
This is an email, I recently sent to a young lady who is overcoming some difficulties.. Afterwards, I decided that we can all benefit from it.. so here it is to the glory of God.
Peter was in the Holy Mountain with Jesus, when they had an awesome experience.. Moses and Elijah appeared, Jesus started to shine like the sun.. and the audible voice of God the Father spoke out of the cloud.. Pretty awesome... He recounts this story in his Epistle and then says something amazing.. I've never heard anyone ever preach on this..
For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Here's how to get revelation knowledge..
Remember Peter was the one who was blessed with 'revealed knowledge' about who Jesus REALLY was! He said "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God" There was nothing particualy striking about that statement, as they had said it a couple of chapters before, when they saw Jesus walking on the water.. When he got into the boat, they said "You are the Christ!" but it was based upon what their physical eyes saw.. not what was revealed to their hearts.. The things of God are REVEALED to the hearts of men by the Holy Spirit..
"Blessed are you Simon.. for flesh and blood has not REVEALED this to you but my Father Who is in Heaven..."
Then Jesus made this awesome statement..
"Upon this rock (the revealed knowledge of Jesus) I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (against a church that has revelation knowledge..)
Now.. back to 2 Peter.. They were with Him in the Mount and heard the audible voice of Almighty God! Pretty awesome! BUT Peter now says that there is something MORE SURE that that!! huh?
"We have also a more sure word of prophecy;" This is the written Word of God.. NOW He tells you what to do with it...
whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place.. This lines up with "My Son, attend to my words, incline your ears to my sayings.. (Prov4)
The Bible says "The entrance of thy Word giveth light"
until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: This is the day of revelation.... He's writing to the church.. born again, Spirit filled believers..
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. ~ There are all sorts of interpretations about the Word of God... but here it says that it shouldn't be!! "I think it means this.. or that .... etc.." Why?
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. "Knowing this FIRST!!!!" He is the inspirer of the Word of God.. and He is the revealer of the Word of God.
People say all sorts of stuff.. Jesus said to Peter.. "Who do MEN (flesh and blood) say that I am? and they gave him a list of what MEN thought..~ Then He said "but who do YOU say that I am?" Who do YOU say that He is? What you say is your faith speaking....
Hear the Parable of the Woods..
"You go out for a nice walk in the woods, all is well and the sun is shining.. It's a lovely day... Life's good.. You walk and walk but then suddenly you are aware that it's getting dark! ~ You think.. "mmm.. I had better get home" but you are deep in the woods and it's getting darker, clouds are coming in and you are not sure which way you came from! It's almost dark by now and the temperature is dropping and fear is setting in!
You start to trip over roots and branches slap you in the face.. It getting colder and starting to rain.. fear is screaming in your ear.. hope is fading fast..
Then.... suddenly in the far distance, you see a light.. you look again.. 'Yes' a light!! So you start to head towards it, not daring to blink in case you lose it.. You keep walking, tripping, getting scratched.. but you keep heading towards that light.. eyes firmly fixed.. then after a while, you find the woods are thinning out and suddenly you break out of them and you are standing in a field.. Over on the other side of the valley is a farmhouse with its outside light on.. You now walk towards the house and safety...
The meaning:
All is well in life and suddenly things start to go wrong.. Jesus called them the "storms of life' ~ Things start to go wrong and then get worse.. You are in a dark place in your life.. What do you do?
The Bible says.. 'The entrance of God's Word giveth light".. Peter said, "So whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place..' So you bed down with the Word of God for the circumstance, or dark place, you are in.. It may be healing.. The Word brings hope and gives light to you.. "By Whose stripes you were healed" ~ "Himself took our sickness and bore our pain" You 'attend' to this Word, you take heed to it.. Your confidence is in that this 'Word' did not come from man but from the Holy Spirit and is not open to any private interpretations like.. "But so and so didn't get healed" "Healing has passed away" "God doesn't do that anymore"
Traditions of men given to explain something they don't understand..
The Word of God brings hope.. but hope alone is not enough.. You have to start to walk out of the woods, head to towards the light.. Act your faith in other words.. Faith is not what you believe, it's acting upon what you believe.. "and when Jesus SAW their faith"
Then suddenly.. "until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts" This is the day of revelation!! ~ The 'day dawns.. you see the farmhouse! The 'daystar' (the revealed knowledge of Jesus) arises in your heart (you see the light!.. The penny's dropped..) You start off towards the house and safety and all is well...
